More sustainable crop protection solutions providing additional modes of actions is the new challenge that the agricultural market is facing.

Monsanto BioAg offers products containing Metarhizium anisopliae strain F52 as an additional tool in the toolbox for effective insect control.

Metarhizium anisopliae is a naturally occurring fungus that is found in soils worldwide.

As a biological, products containing this fungus it can provide another tool in a resistance management program because of its novel mode of action in comparison to conventional chemistry. In addition, it is well-suited for inclusion in an integrated pest management (IPM) program.

Mode of action

  • Insect larvae need to be into contact with the Fungal spores – product has no plant systemic or translaminar activity
  • The spores attach to the surface of the insect, germinate and penetrate the exoskeleton
  • Once inside the insect, the fungus grows rapidly, causing the insect to die
  • New spores are then formed from the hyphae that may emerge from the dead target insect.
